Triumph Speed Triple 1050 (2011-2015, “Slant Eyes”) Maintenance Schedule
This is the maintenance schedule and service intervals for the 2011-2015 Triumph Speed Triple 1050, the first one with the “slant eyes” look, but retaining the under-seat exhaust.
Triumph dramatically updated the Speed Triple in 2011, saying goodbye to the previous 2005-2010 Triumph Speed Triple‘s iconic dual round front headlight look.
Here are all the motorcycles in the Triumph Speed Triple range from launch in the 90s:
- Speed Triple 900 (1994-1996), 885cc, carburettor-fed, single round eye, basic looking
- Speed Triple T509 (1997-1998), new look with round eyes
- Speed Triple 955i (1999-2004), bigger 955cc fuel-injected engine from Daytona
- Speed Triple 1050 (2005-2010), bigger 1050cc engine, still round-eyes
- Speed Triple 1050 (2011-2015), new slant-eyed look
- Speed Triple R and S (2016-2017), higher spec
- Speed Triple S (2018-2020), “less high” spec
- Speed Triple RS (2018-2020), 6-axis IMU and cruise control
- Speed Triple 1200 RS (2021+), bigger 1160cc engine
- Speed Triple 1200 RR (2022+), a sport bike based on the Speed Triple 1200 RS
The 2011-2015 Triumph Speed Triple 1050 is based on a 1050cc 12-valve DOHC liquid-cooled inline triple (a three-cylinder engine). It makes a peak of 99 kW (135 PS / 133 bhp) at 9400 rpm, and peak torque of 111 Nm (83 ft-lb) at 7750 rpm. So it’s quite a midrange-focused engine (though torque peaked earlier in the earlier-gen Speed Triple).
The final drive is via a wet clutch and chain drive.
Triumph updated the Speed Triple 1050 with the 2016 Triumph Speed Triple S, which lost the under-tail exhaust.

Full maintenance schedule
Below is the regular maintenance schedule for the 2011-2015 Speed Triple 1050.
Notes on the maintenance schedule:
- Along with the items below, do everything mentioned in the “Daily checks” section.
- At the end of the maintenance periods shown, continue in the same pattern (every 1, 2, or 4 intervals)
- Later manuals are structured differently, and don’t have distance intervals for changing the brake fluid or coolant (and the coolant change interval is longer).
- Items marked [T] need Triumph dealer/mechanic tools or resources.
The original manual specified doing many things every year, but later manuals changed the format and made it clear that many maintenance items are just based on engine time, e.g. spark plug renewals and valve clearance checks.

About the Triumph Speed Triple 1050 (2011-2015)
Triumph’s Speed Triple is an iconic and quite unique naked sportbike. It has a lot that makes it special — like the single-sided swingarm or the aggressive-yet-comfortable posture — but it’s fairly unique in that it’s not based on a superbike, but rather stands on its own. (At the time Triumph didn’t make a superbike in this size class, and just made the Daytona 675.)
The Triumph Speed Triple 1050 got a major refresh in 2015, after a six year run of the first generation 2005-2010 Speed Triple 1050.
The engine has the same displacement, but is improved in every way (both peak power plus torque across the rev range). The chassis is also improved. But the feature that most people noticed when it was first revealed was the change in the front headlight styling — swapping out the twin circular headlights for the slanty eyes that have been visible on Speed Triples (and Street Triples) ever since.
The Product Manager of the Speed Triple at the time, Simo Warburton, claimed that the bike didn’t look “right” once they had done all their other changes, and was OK with some people liking it and some people not.
The 1050cc inline three-cylinder 12-valve DOHC engine gets just five horsepower more than the previous gen (133 bhp vs 128 bhp, or 99 kW vs 95 kW), coming on at 9400 rpm. But there’s a lot more torque in the midrange thanks to a redesign of both the intake and exhaust. The 1050 has an “unbelievably flat” torque curve per Cycle World, with torque right from the 1300rpm idle.
The brakes on the Speed Triple 1050 are very competent, without being superbike spec. They’re four-piston calipers powered by a Brembo radial master cylinder and gripping 320mm discs, with ABS as an option.
Suspension on the Speed Triple 1050 is adjustable front and rear for preload, rebound, and compression damping.
In 2012, Triumph released the 2012-2015 Triumph Speed Triple R based on the 2011-2015 Speed Triple. It is the same bike but with full Öhlins suspension (a NIX30 fork and a TTX36 shock), Brembo monobloc front calipers, and forged aluminium wheels to drop unsprung mass even further. ABS is standard but switchable on the 2012-2015 Speed Triple R.
Maintaining the Triumph Speed Triple 1050 is much like maintaining most other liquid-cooled Triumph sportbikes. You change the oil and filter every 10000 km (6000 mi) and every second service, change the spark plugs and check the valve clearances.
Tyre sizes and pressures for the Triumph Speed Triple 1050
The Triumph Speed Triple 1050 ships with a number of different tyre options, including Metzeler Racetec K3 Interact, Bridgestone Battlax BT003 RS or Battlax BT016, Pirelli Diablo Rosso, Michelin Power Pure, and Michelin Pilot Road tyres.
These are collection of tyres that are street legal, ranging from “basically track tyres” down to “commuter”. So the Speed Triple can take a range of tyres depending on your general use case.
Wheel | Tyre (Tire) size | Tyre (Tire) pressure |
---|---|---|
Front | 120/70 ZR 17 | 2.35 bar / 34 psi |
Rear | 190/55 ZR 17 | 2.9 bar / 42 psi |
