Suzuki GSX-8T and GSX-8TT Maintenance Schedule and Service Intervals

This is the maintenance schedule and service-interval guide for the Suzuki GSX-8T and GSX-8TT, introduced for the 2026 model year. Both versions share the same engine, chassis and maintenance requirements, so the schedule below applies to either motorcycle.

The GSX-8T and GSX-8TT use Suzuki’s 776 cc liquid-cooled DOHC parallel-twin engine, a six-speed transmission and chain final drive. They are retro-styled relatives of the Suzuki GSX-8S and Suzuki GSX-8R. The four bikes share the same basic engine and their regular service schedules are very similar.

Suzuki GSX-8T and GSX-8TT Service Intervals

The Suzuki GSX-8T and GSX-8TT have a first service at 1,000 km (600 mi) or two months. After that, the regular service interval is 6,000 km (3,750 mi) or 12 months, whichever comes first.

Change the engine oil at every scheduled service. The oil filter is due at the first service and then every 18,000 km (11,250 mi). Inspect the spark plugs at 6,000 km (3,750 mi), replace them at 12,000 km (7,500 mi), and continue the same pattern.

The major valve-clearance inspection is due at 24,000 km (15,000 mi). Brake fluid is time-based and needs replacement every two years. Replace the brake hoses every four years. Suzuki Super Long Life Coolant (blue) lasts four years or 48,000 km (30,000 mi); conventional Suzuki Long Life Coolant (green), or another approved coolant, has a two-year / 12,000 km (7,500 mi) replacement interval.

The drive chain needs more frequent attention than the main service schedule. Inspect it before riding and clean and lubricate it every 1,000 km (600 mi), or sooner after riding in rain or on dirty roads.

The table below is adapted from the 2026 Suzuki GSX-8T/GSX-8TT owner’s manual. Follow the earlier of the distance or time limit. Continue servicing the motorcycle every 6,000 km (3,750 mi) or 12 months after the intervals shown, tracking each longer-term item from its last inspection or replacement.

Legend: I = inspect and clean, adjust, replace or lubricate as necessary; C = clean; R = replace; T = tighten; L = lubricate.

Regular Inspection Checklist

At each regular service, inspect the items marked above and correct any wear, looseness, leakage or damage. The practical checklist is:

  • Check the fuel and radiator hoses for damage, leaks and secure routing.
  • Check clutch operation and cable play; lubricate the cable when necessary.
  • Inspect the drive chain for slack, stiff links, damaged rollers, rust and wear.
  • Check brake operation, pad wear, fluid level and hose condition.
  • Inspect tyre condition and pressure.
  • Check steering movement, fork and shock action, and look for suspension leaks at the specified intervals.
  • Check and tighten chassis, exhaust and muffler fasteners at the specified intervals.
  • Lubricate the pivots and other points listed in the owner’s manual every 1,000 km (600 mi).

Maintaining the Chain on the Suzuki GSX-8T and GSX-8TT

Inspect the chain before riding. Suzuki specifies 20–30 mm (0.8–1.2 in) of slack, measured halfway between the chain roller and rear sprocket with the motorcycle on its side stand.

Clean and lubricate the chain every 1,000 km (600 mi). Do it sooner after wet or dirty riding, or whenever the chain looks dry. Replace the chain and sprockets if you find damaged rollers, loose pins, kinked links, heavy rust or excessive wear.

Adjusting Chain Slack

  1. Put the motorcycle on its side stand.
  2. Loosen the rear axle nut.
  3. Loosen the lock nuts on both chain adjusters.
  4. Turn the left and right adjuster bolts evenly until the slack is 20–30 mm (0.8–1.2 in).
  5. Use the swingarm reference marks to keep the rear sprocket aligned with the front sprocket.
  6. Tighten the rear axle nut to 100 Nm (74.0 lb-ft).
  7. Recheck the chain slack and readjust if necessary.
  8. Tighten both chain-adjuster lock nuts to 22 Nm (16.5 lb-ft).

Wheels and Tyres

Both models use 17-inch cast wheels and tubeless Dunlop Roadsport2-X tyres. The sizes are the same as those on the GSX-8S and GSX-8R.

About the Suzuki GSX-8T and GSX-8TT

Suzuki introduced the GSX-8T and GSX-8TT for the 2026 model year. They take the 776 cc parallel-twin platform from the GSX-8S and GSX-8R and wrap it in bodywork inspired by older Suzuki road bikes.

The engine has a 270-degree crankshaft and makes 61 kW (82 hp) and 78 Nm (58 lb-ft) in European trim. Both models have ride-by-wire throttle, three power modes, adjustable traction control and a two-way quickshifter. The chassis uses a steel frame, KYB inverted fork, linked rear shock and Nissin radial-mount four-piston front calipers.

The GSX-8T is the simpler of the two. Its flat-bottom round headlight and model name refer to Suzuki’s T500 Titan. The GSX-8TT adds a small headlight cowl and lower fairing inspired by the GS1000S. It also has a slightly lower seat and weighs 2 kg (4 lb) more, but the mechanical service requirements are the same.
